Submitted our application via MB in the beginning of Oct, 25% deposit, mortgage for 3.3 x our combined salary.
Accepted by underwritter 12 days after application (pending valuation, booked next week) seems like we're moving fairly quickly, prepared myself for a 8 week + wait!
  • Still waiting, haven't heard any updates for weeks other than it is sitting in the underwriters queue.
Applied 29/08, valuation done 04/09, went to underwriters on 24/09 and nothing since.
I see on their website the queue is on the 22/09, so hope for update by end of week but wouldn't be surprised if it's nothing again.

If you're using a MB I'd chase them. If you're not I'm not sure that page is actually relevant as I noticed the other day it's for intermediaries, maybe it's the same timescales if you're applying yourself but I was definitely given different information last week when I had my phone appointment. They told me the underwriters were looking at apps from the 6th Oct and they only had 8 remaining from that date, and I should hear something this week. My app went to the underwriters last weds. Really hoping today might be the day!

    25/08 - Application submitted.
01/10 - Application assessed and Santander requested August payslips from us both - Submitted these on the same day.
02/10 - Mortgage adviser informed us that Santander are taking 20 working days to respond to cases.
14/10 - Santander asked why I work 4 hours away from the new home, and I responded back to inform them that I work from home and only go into that office once or twice a month.
20/10 - I asked the mortgage advisor for an update and was told we have been put back in the underwriters queue!

I have also noticed Santander have carried out a soft check (affordability) on my Credit Karma file however, there is no hard check and the soft check is not showing on my Experian report.

Very frustrating as I have no idea how much longer this will take. Deadline was 25th Sept.

Our MB spoke to Santander yesterday and then confirmed that the dates on the intermediary page, whether there is a different date for applying yourself is another matter. They also confirmed that it was passed to the underwriter on the 28th September, so therefore would be looked at in the next few days (presuming next Monday as they are on the 23rd Sept now!). Not sure if that is much use, really think all you can do is sit tight. If something seems off though, leep reaching out as we found out our valuation hadn't been booked due to them having an incorrect number (our MB only found out after the EA chased us!)

Once Santander request for more information, would that push you right to the back of the queue? I applied on 25/08 and back into the underwriters queue for the 3rd time. If I am at the back of the queue as of 14/10 then I have another 3/4 weeks to wait which will be too late!

Judging by previous replies, it seems every request/document from the underwriters is taking 5 days or so to be seen.

We are using mortgage broker who we chased and she confirmed the dates on the website and that it is still in the queue.
It moved to 23/09 today, getting the hopes up again 😄

I'm hoping it is different if you apply yourself then as I'll have weeks to wait before they even look at it, and it isn't what I was told. All docs were submitted on the 5th but i had to wait until the 14th for my phone appointment so it didn't go to underwriting until then. It shouldn't really make a difference whether you use a broker or not though should it! If I don't hear this week I guess I'll know I'm in for a much longer wait...

My MB said you get given a designated underwriter for your case. So when they ask a question, i stays with the same underwriter but they may have their own queue system for that specific underwriter if that makes sense? I don't think you go back to the dates on the intermediary site. Guess it's luck of the draw with which underwriter you get/how fast they are/what types of cases they have! Hope that helps! But again it's all speculation
