  • Hi all, I was on this thread previously. Our purchase completed in the end, thank goodness. It was a looong wait. We had a straightforward application for a house with no chain and we were renting previously, so no chain on either end. We are both in full time employment, over 10 years each in our jobs, good/high salaries, 10% deposit.
We started applying 7th June after offer accepted on the house. Our mortgage was approved on the 29th of July and we exchanged/completed on the same day -  18 August (after a lot of back and forth between Santander and our solicitor about the estate management charges malarkey). We thought we'd never be here, but here we are, 4th week in our lovely new home and couldn't be happier. Just trying to provide hope to those still waiting! :)
  • im looking for a santander mortgage but im debating whether to do it myself or go through a broker?  my circumstances 'seem' very straightforward, im employed and its <60%LTV. ive got an AIP from Santander but the mortgage the MA has offered is slightly more than I found myself.  my question is: should i go through the MA or do it myself?  i have 3 months till my current rate runs out so no rush, just worried they may decline me or something and ill be begging the MA to take me on again!
Mortgage start date Dec 2019 - £217,000  MFD Dec 2034
    Mortgage currently £163,750 MFD 2030

  • We're in a similar position to many postings on here having applied for extra funds for home improvements on an existing Santander mortgage.

Originally applied for this over to the phone but was advised the process would be quicker if did it myself online, which we went ahead and did. It's taking 7 days to look at paperwork and respond with extra queries, yet in contrast valuation took less than 48h to complete! Very different to the advertised timescales on the intermediary page.

Any advice on how to try and push this along as need to start ordering stuff to carry out home improvements due to lead times? Regret not continuing with the telephone application as at least you had an assigned advisor where as we now just face computer says no kind of situation.
  • Purchase collapsed last week, so we are back to square one :( .

We had an offer accepted yesterday on a new property so submitted a new mortgage application directly and managed to apply for the lower rate of 0.99%, fingers crossed it goes smoothly again.

I was applying via a mortgage advisor
10th Sep: Santander receive my mortgage application
13th Sep: Provided all required documents mostly bank statements
14th Sep: Booked valuation which is scheduled on 22nd Sep
16th Sep: Came back asking for more official statements for ISA account and provide on the same day
21st Sep: Came back asking for the address of the property that I currently own in my home country. (mortgage free)

No news since then. The mortgage advisor said they have raised it to Santander as it has already over the service level agreement. Hopefully, I will hear more updates soon.

Has anyone had their application referred to head office and if so what was the outcome? My application went in on 20/8 and I had numerous back and forth with underwriters asking for more info, back my case has been referred to head office since 29/9 with no timescale….
  • Hi everyone. I completed back in July (good luck to everyone still waiting). How long should it normally take for my mortgage to appear on my credit report? I've checked all 3 agencies and none are showing anything to do with my Santander mortgage.

Went very quickly and smoothly for me via my mortgage broker:

    23/9/21 - Mortgage in Principle
30/9/21 - Application with evidence Submitted
5/10/21 - Application approved pending valuation (which Santander booked in the next working day!)
8/10/21 - Mortgage offer formally issued

    02/09/21 - Offer Accepted
    23/09/21 - Solicitor Instructed
23/09/21 - Mortgage in Principle through preferred provider
    07/10/21 - Mortgage Offer Issued
    12/10/21 - All searches complete
03/11/21 - Completion date of 19/11 agreed, with exchange of contracts on 15/11
12/11/21 - Email received from delaying completion date due to issues higher in the chain
10/12/21 - Completion date of 19/12 agreed by all parties

  • Hi all, wondering if anyone can help?
Submitted mortgage via broker on Friday 8/10.
Today we’ve had an update email from the broker which shows a timeline of events and today’s update states
    valuation booked 2/11
After that The email also states ‘mortgage agreed’ 11/10 (today).
Does this mean our mortgage has been approved so long as the valuation is all fine? Or is this just a minor stage in the process.

Don’t want to get excited too early. Many thanks for any help.

Correct - this is what happened for me. As long as the valuation is fine, it's approved.
