Printer shortages?

Thanks, will keep researching.
We bought ours in Feb 2014, and by our Amazon order records have used 6 sets of colour inks and probably 12 blacks.
So I'm guessing that's pretty low use!!
We don't do photos or anything really, just the odd order confirmation/receipt or spreadsheet.
Laser printers use that powder ink don't they (like big office ones), does that not go off or clog like liquid ink? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -

how regular is the printing?
do you need/want color?
I got may last one by keeping an eye on HUKD and the cashback offers, not a lot on there today.

Hmm not sure we do 3 a day average, but I always order XL ink.
I probably do about 5 a week, average. But clustered around month end.
Colour is a sort of need, as I do copy maps for walking and my spreadsheets have colour coded items too. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)0 -

I've done some maths for you, and there's a clear winner.
A HP printer with the instant ink subscription lets you print 50 pages per month for £1.99. If the printer lasts for another six years, and you buy something like a HP Deskjet 2630 for <£40, the total cost over six years will be just £178. Even if the printer needs replacing once in that time, the total is just over £200.
I looked some equivalent inkjet printers - e.g CANON PIXMA TS3150, buying the cartridges you need over six years, assuming you continue to use what you said above (and yes I took page numbers per cartidge into account) and the total for all of them was well over £400.
The cheapest ink printers with refillable bottles, or colour laser printers, that I could find both come in at over £300 because of the initial cost of buying the printer.
So I'd reccomend the HP with instant ink subscription. Where is that rotating Martin Lewis emoji when you need it?1 -
Jumping in to this thread (without reading :-) I recommend HP instant ink if you a. don't print lots b. like a printer that works. BUT cannot see any cheap HP printers at the moment...1

So if it's a subscription, at £1.99 per month for up to 50 pages, I assume you'd pay this every month, even if it takes 6 months to use 50 pages??
I currently buy my inks off Amazon, and pay about £6 a set. They are the unbranded ones, but have always been fine.
