Good Morning,
I’m at a loss to know when to buy a new car! Was at point of purchase as we went into lockdown, only to find now the price has gone up over £1000.... gulp. Should I wait till things settle in the hope prices go back to pre Covid, or buy now? Advice appreciated, thank you, Craftycarrot

If it is a used car I'm sure its not so unique there aren't others.
If its a new car find a used one which is cheaper.0 -
Wait.
Just look at the redundancies announced yesterday, that will impact both private and fleet sales. Dealers and manufacturers are talking their book trying to scare buyers into dealing by moving prices up. I think the best deals will be available at the end of the year and may get even better in the new year.
Obviously the value of your trade in may drop too. Your best option may be just to sit tight and monitor the market.1 -

When your old one is beyond economic repair. That's assuming that you have an old one to replace, of course.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
There are new car deals, for example a Ford dealer ship has around £2000 of the price. I think its more down to the dealerships then overall car prices.0

If you had a deal in March that you would be happy with and still happy with, then offer the same deal back to the dealership (or something slightly in your favour). If they don't accept that, then walk away.
As others have said, if the current car works, stick with it.0 -
Dealers are only just re-opening and the market needs time to settle down. When it does I expect there will be massive, massive discounts to be had as we hit a deep recession and people have an eye how badly brexit is going and the likely double recession that will cause.0

There won't be any deals coming up in the near future as, after last night's announcement, there will be 3 million Hong Kong nationals popping over and all needing cars, houses etc. Buy now before the rush! I am even thinking of doing a BTL so that I can max out on the rent0

Just remember the fallout of 2008. Ford Kuga's were virtually half price around 2010/11.2
