Chipping away - slowly but surely

Options
Hello all - I had a diary a while ago and wanted to come on to update on progress but I appear to have lost it 😞. I last updated about a year ago when I think the debt was sitting at around 12k. A mixture of events mean I haven’t made as much progress as I would like but as of today it is now £4930. That’s spread across two loans - one at £3886 and one at £1044. The whole COVID situation has highlighted how important it is for me to get on top of these. So this month I am ramping things up! Not frivolous spending and a reduction in the food budget. Ideally I’d like these paid off by the end of the year. Hints and tips welcome 🙏. Thanks all x

I started doing surveys last week. I use Panelbase.net and prolific. I earn between 50p -£4 per day. I will be cashing out at £20 and doing an overpayment to my debt. So could be worth thinking about. I ALS spread my council tax payment over 12 months, not the normal 10.
You could also join’Pay off your debt by Xmas 2020’ challenge. This has really helped me stay motivated and addicted to debt busting.
Good luck and well done on your debt busting!

  • Well done- you've made great progress!
Looking forward to following the rest of your journey :)
    Debt Feb 20: £13,212.12
    Debt March 21: £0!
  • Thanks all! I used to do surveys but got out of the habit. Must get back to those. I got a decent amount of amazon vouchers which I used to cover presents.

Nothing spent since my last post. A picnic with the kids so no cost there. The two loans left are with zopa and when you make an overpayment it takes about five days to clear and while it is you can’t make another payment. It’s a shame as I used to like making little regular overpayments to keep motivated on my nationwide loan that I cleared recently 😂
  • Good morning! Had a few no spend days which is great. I’ve taken to moving little amounts over into my instant access savings account so that I still get the thrill of moving the money out of my account and then when the last payment has cleared I can over pay a bit more 😀. I like getting it out of my main account so it can’t be spent on unnecessary things!

Need to buy my daughter a new mattress soon so that’s an expense (She’s graduating to a single bed from her cot) but the good news is the bed will be free - it’s mine from when I was a child. About 35 years old!
  • Hi @Bizzywizard - where do I find the challenge please? Thanks!

  • thanks @Bizzywizard 😀😀
  • Managed to pay a few smallish amounts off this week and am now down to £4696. Baby steps! No food shopping so far this week, we are eating from the cupboards. I don’t mind eating a strange mix of things but actually so far it has been fine and it really makes me realise how much food we have in the cupboards when we go shopping for more! We are vegan so usually eat a lot of fresh veg but the garden has just started producing courgettes which is helping out at the moment and means I don’t have to shop for them. 😀😀
  • Ps my mum offered to pay for the mattress which was kind and helpful!
