Should I still have to pay private dental insurance whilst my dentist is closed?

Options
Just a thought but should I, in fact anyone, still be paying our/my monthly dental insurance payment whilst we're unable to actually go to the dentist during lockdown?

Presumably once the dentist reopens, then anyone who has been waiting for treatment will still look to get treatment? Presumably then the insurance will still cover the same amount of the treatment cost? If so, I can't see why you would not still be expected to make insurance payments. It is not as if you are less likely to need dental treatment because of lockdown.

  • It's a fair point though, say your dentist wasn't open and when they reopen your condition has got worse and not needs even more expensive treatment that your plan won't cover now.

You could contact your insurance company and ask for a partial refund based on them not being able to provide dental services for X months.
  • Yes fair point, I would have never have thought of not paying had I not received an email from my dental practice to say that when they re-open they will be charging an extra premium to cover PPE. I replied saying it was rather unreasonable given that I'd just paid 4 months at £36 and couldn't access the treatment I needed (I have a broken tooth). Anyone know our rights on this?
  • If they can't provide the service you should get a refund.
