Hi all
I have used bank transfer before within the UK, HSBC don't charge for that but there is an online shop based in Europe that sells some books I can't get here, if I have the relevant IBAN/SWIFT number etc will they charge me, what is the minimum charge? I have a basic hsbc account.
I will only be spending about £30 so I hope they won't charge too much?
Thanks

Yes, HSBC charge for sending money overseas.
The lowest fee they charge is £9 for what they call a WorldPay payment and you can send the payment from within Internet Banking from their current accounts(so I assume from their basic bank account as well) . The help pages for this are here
As you will be sending only £30 on books, have you checked to see if the shop would accept any other payment methods - a debit/credit card instead or even a PayPal payment as those are likely to be cheaper methods.. - even sending cash in a registered letter might be cheaper (though probably not as safe)

I have tried checking, only credit card and bank transfer, it is a european websute, they have many offices in europe but not one in the UK, I find a lot of european websites don't have paypal, I think paypal isn't well established there like it is in the UK USA
9 isn't too bad I guess0 -

(Ok I know about the 2.75% in the exchange rate but for £30 that will be pennies).0 -
Perhaps you have a friend/family member with a credit card who would be willing to make the purchase for you?0
