What's "My Wall"?

I thought that I was fairly reasonably ok tech-wise, but .....

I received a private message, and also a notification that the poster had "written on my wall".
I can see the message that they sent listed under 'Activity' in my profile as well as in my Inbox.
What bit is 'my wall' and can I delete what's written on it if I wanted to?
Other messages aren't showing there - I have asked a forum guide but don't think I explained well enough 

It's not really important, just niggling me!
And I don't seem to have an edit button either - been told that it's at the top right of posts that you make, but not on mine it isn't!

I can't see an edit button anywhere, and I'm prone to making typos!

Apparently, the edit button only comes after a few weeks of being a member or after a set number of posts. No-one seems to know exactly when it becomes available. There will be a small cog symbol at the right hand side of the bar at the top of the post. When you click on it you can Edit or Delete the post.

Activity - Wall, they are the same.
You can post there and so can other people, it is like personal messages (PMs) but public.
I have not been able to find out how to delete them.
