Sainsburys' "Special" Ofers

I would say its actually worth staying with Sainsburys, but always check receipts, as the quality is far more superior to that in Tescos. Their prices may be slightly less, but the quality of their produce is extremely inferior to that of Sainsburys. Its taken me a few years to figure this out.:beer:0

I dont know about Morrisons as I dont shop there very often. I would say every other time there is a mistake on my receipt. I was once in Tesco where the man in front of me was overcharged £120. Yes, £120. It was at Xmas time, but theres still no excuse. I think it could be deliberate. Why I say this, is because every time it happens, they are not particularly apologetic about it.
I'd wet my pants if Tesco overcharged me £120, I'd be in and out of that store till the shelves were empty then trot up to customer services and request my refund and replace on the lot.
just in case anyone viewing this thread is unaware Tesco have a refund and replace policy which is clearly displayed in all their stores at the customer service counter the crucial wording being "If by any chance we overcharge you we will refund your money and you can keep the product" this does not apply to multiple charging ie if you only have one apple and are charged for it twice, it applies to differences between the price on the pack or shelf edge display and the price you are charged at the till, very frequently you will be told by customer service staff that there is no refund and replace policy, this situation doesn#t apply, we only refund the difference etc, stand your ground this is a head office policy and NO manager has the authority to overrule it and make them read their own sign and try and explain to you why it shouldn't apply, if not satisfied contact their head office who will make it clear in no uncertain terms to the store in question just exactly what their obligation is.
Whilst refund and replace is a voluntary offer that Tesco make as they include it in their marketing material both instore and on national tv it becomes an obligation or a misleading advertisement which can be dealt with by Trading standards.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

Looked at receipt and charged for 2 tops - not one!!!
Went to customer services and got refund!
Got home - husband can only find one bag of nuts but not the 2 that we paid for!!!
As store is 15 miles away- I am not going back.
Why is no-one in my family capable of checking receipt or shopping - only me???
You know what they say about men and nuts! How could he forget them? Didn't he have them in his hands at the time?Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
There are two ways to check how much you've been charged for an item:
1. Each till has two electronic displays: one for the cashier and one for the customer. Each time an item is scanned, the product name and price are displayed where the customer can see it.
It is that this point that I usually notice if I've been overcharged. Keep an eye on the till's electronic display. Remember, it's on the till for your benefit.
2. Your receipt. Remember to check it before you leave the store. Most receipts also feature a section at the bottom, where your total savings are listed. Check that it is correct.
Before going to the checkout, I always roughly calculate how much my shopping will cost. If I am then charged more, I know immediately that I've been overcharged. When it comes to shopping, I put the onus on myself to check that I've been charged correctly. Afterall, I'll be the one who has all the hassle and/or be left out of pocket if a mistake is made. Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -
I have also vowed never to shop at sainsbury's again as the last two times I shopped there, I was tricked by there pricing system. Wrong prices on shelves and then refusals to honor the said price! I also believe it is no accident and they are dessperate to sell their over priced stock!0

My friends old mum shops daily in Sainsburys because it is so local to her Being retired she has plenty of time and only a few items so she always checks her receipt when she gts home .She tells me she has to query overcharges at least a couple of times a week so I started checking mine When you work full time and shop in a rush at peak times for £150 or so by the time you get home and get it unpacked you dont feel like checking receipts .Anyway I found I wasnt getting special offers. Not worth thr travel time and petrol money to go back and by next week I would forget . I am shopping at Tescos now but having read these board ................! Someone should tell these supermarkets to read these boards.0

Re Kazza242 comments above, I also do this but Tesco now have a policy of putting the discounts/savings at the end of the receipt rather than the saving coming up immediately. As I have two large teenagers my weekly shop is huge and it is difficult to be sure they are all there.0

I was nearly caught out by Safeway a couple of years ago with prices on the shelf. They had offers which ran from I think it was Wednesday until the following Tuesday. I used to go shopping the night before (they weren't 24 hours), and found that about 6 or 7pm they would start putting up the special offer prices on the shelves, a day ahead of when they were actually going to be available, yet covering the actual price. After a couple of run-ins with the store management they stopped putting the prices on the shelves til the following morning. They did point out that there was tiny, tiny, print on each notice, but I don't have hours to go round looking at every bit of small print in the supermarket, who does?!
And re Dragonsoup, that's right, it doesn't calculate the money savings til the end now at Tesco, where once upon a time you could watch it subtract the item as it went through the till, and you knew where you were! This is particularly vital when you buy several of one item, and the cashier mis-scans them...0 -
Hello, first time poster, very good website!
Well, i work at Sainsbury's and would like to point out that yes, sometimes a product that is supposed to be on offer is replenished with, for example, a different size for that same product. This is just error...as is if you are overcharged at the till. I myself have accidentally put through one item twice for example and not noticed.
I cannot speak for other branches, or indeed other supermarkets but these occurances are not part of an evil money-making scheme.0
