I am full time employed (not self employed) but my employer would not refund the cost of an IPad which I need to do my work properly from home. If I go in the expenses form on HMRC online it is saying I am not eligible for equipment but maybe entitled to capital allowances. I am not sure this is right given I am not self employed. Any help on how to go about this would be appreciated.

You can not claim the tax back in the iPad, it is a personal purchase and not business related, if you need equipment to work from home, such as a laptop, then your employer needs to provide that, you can not however go and buy whatever you want and then claim a tax rebate for it.0

There is also no obligation for the employer to simply reimburse your choice of equipment. If you needed equipment, most employers do not use iPad devices.0

The employer is an educational establishment and the iPad will only be used for teaching. The employer is not in a position to reimburse. The iPad will only be used for teaching purposes and is needed because I don't have access to class room during lockdown. This hints it may be allowed
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/experts/article-1558848/Can-I-claim-tax-for-my-laptop.html similar to a laptop - but when I tried to select other equipment in the link Jeremy provided it says I can't claim and must claimed under capital allowances which I believe are for self employed.

No you can claim capital allowances as an employee but only on more substantial expenditure using that link. The claim has to exceed £2,500. If you follow the links through you end up with the choice of other expenses or you could use the tools category.

- repairing or replacing small tools you need to do your job (for example, scissors or an electric drill)
- cleaning, repairing or replacing specialist clothing (for example, a uniform or safety boots)
