Muddled about which cashback credit card

I am bit a muddled about which cashback credit card to apply for.
- I pay off every month
- I don't spend on luxuries. Mainly essentials food (regular / premium), car petrol £300, insurance (£1200), home improvements (can vary £0 to £5000 p.a.), DIY Stores, gadgets, appliances, prime, home stuff, fibre broadband, sim only £12, eBay, computing/ photography hobby, storage £200 p/m etc...
I do have some standing orders, for water, electric and council tax , not sure if I can route these off to credit card.....
I am not sure which one would suit me better the M&S card it card or Sainsbury's credit card. I did look at others, but it is confusing with intro offers etc...
I do shop and Sainsbury's regularly, but on occasions at M&S, but for food treats....
Just wonder how people manage their finances....

Nectar AmEx might be good as you shop in Sainsbury's

Everyone manages their finances differently depending on their situation.

Have you tried the eligibility checkers for the cards you're considering to see the likelihood of acceptance?

Amex cashback give a generous percentage and I also had a good credit limit.  Unfortunately, I found the card was not acceptable at too many places to be much use so I no longer have the Amex card.

Sainsburys would be a good card if you are a regular shopper. i have a credit card which gives me air miles as i prefer the advantages compared to cashback light using points for upgrades of travelling to most european destinations for £35 (from London) if you use points. (British Airways flights BA)
if you travel abroad this could be worth thinking about. Avios points for BA flights (AMEX card) or Virgin (Mastercard for their long haul flights)

B&Q is the only major retailer not accepting Amex.
    Nigh-on everywhere else does.

Since you shop at Sainsbury's i would aim for Nectar points instead of Cashback. I would get the Amex Nectar card AND the Sainsbury's Credit Card. That way those odd few places you cannot use the Nectar Amex you can use the Sainsbury's Master Card but both cards will be adding to your 1 pot of Nectar points. Then you can spend these at Sainsbury's or Argos.

B&M don't take Amex as well as quite a few smaller retailers, so an additional card is always handy.

I think it depends if you want cashback or rewards. I use Amex Everyday for spending and an old Nationwide cashback card for anywhere that doesn't accept Amex. Barclaycard are offering same as what I get from Nationwide.
If it's rewards you're after then Sainsburys sounds good.
