I certainly hope that will not be the case, especially for Motability drivers. I have a Hyundai iX20 auto. 125 bhp from a 1.6 16valve engine, mated to a 6 speed auto box which delivers sparkling, smooth acceleration. I love it: it's 2 years old now and just seems to get better. Plus it's the ideal cabin size for 2 disabled people to enter and exit, and it's comfortable. Please don't do this Hyundai, or I'm off to another dealership next year.
I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I would have thought that the days of the old fashioned slush pump are numbered, given that it's only really good for drag racing and changing gear smoothly. In all other aspects, economy and performance, it's inferior to the manual, semi-auto dual clutch type and full hybrid transmission.Robisere said:50Twuncle said:It appears that many manufacturers (Kia and hyundai included) are stopping productiion of small / cheap "true" torque convertor automatics - this willl mean that many people, like myself - who drive automatics through necessity, will not be changing their vehicles any time soon ....

I imagine that, in the future, the hybrid will take over in applications where seamless power delivery is required such as luxury saloons; the dual clutch will become the standard 'auto' in smaller cars and sports cars and the manual will remain in production as part of mild-hybrid systems. The ordinary torque converter and planetary gear automatic will be rendered obsolete.0 -
Once ICE cars are gone then maybe torque converters will go. Planetary gearboxes are highly efficient, up to 98%, the losses come through the torque converter.Ditzy_Mitzy said:

Anyway BMW and Fiat dont think they are obsolete for the next 8-10 years at least
