The OP is scared of the virus, locked away at home for 14 weeks and expressed reluctance to return to work now they are re-opening.  It is really something the OP brought upon themselves.  At least now they can stay locked at home until the virus goes away.
I asked genuine questions that shouldn’t have been that hard to respond to in a professional manner. I wasn’t asking the earth. I am more than happy to return to work, I just wanted to know we were safe, but I take your comment on board.

Yes, and these people have been repeatedly told on here that this sort of attitude is going to be remembered by their employers and they're going to end up being the first out of the door when it comes to layoffs.  Doubt may of them listened though..
A recession always drives companies to find more efficient ways of operating. The balance of power has shifted even more towards employers.
Those currently enjoying a stay of execution need to realise its time to toe the line and raise their game a notch or two.

Maybe next time someone puts a thread that starts "I have been on furlough but now I have been asked back.  Can I use an excuse not to go, or ask questions about it not being safe and just stay on furlough", instead of needing to comment we can just link this thread as the example of how that pans out.
  • Don't take it personally. I'm sure a lot of people have probably fallen out of love with their employer during lock down. Lots of nasty stuff going on out there, least you are a free agent to genuinely look elsewhere without trial and retribution, I've ended up having week long grief with my company because one of their 'mates' said I was looking for another job and a lot worse, unsubstantiated. No way to fight my corner with the mates ID now being protected.
Never got furloughed, spent 12 weeks home working except was I glad of that this week, now just as bricking it as the furlough people when we're now mandated back to the office on a half working day's notice, now working alongside 2 new colleagues I've 'caused' them to get in...wrong side of payday, safety of the place just went out of my head.
With both me and my employer as bad as each other, part of me wants to fight have the opportunity for my hours to become normal again and part of me just wants to return the laptop under this can never be the same again. All seems convenient but there we go. Don't spend time on this thankless bunch, move on and know you can do so with no ties of dreading each day.

There's going to be greatly reduced operating capacity. Unfortunately there's going to be headcount reduction whether it's contracted or non contracted staff. Understandable that you take it personally. When from the managements perspective it's not.
It’s hard not to take it personally when I am the only person to be terminated though. I put so much effort into helping make the business successful, hence my quick promotion.
Going to be a very world post Covid. A fair number of "high class" establishments have already said that they will remain closed for the foreseeable future. In the main due to the economics of reduced capacity. There's not going to be light switch moment any time soon.

I thanked you for your advise. If these threads bore you then don’t respond, move on.
It’s a difficult time for lots of people, I was simply seeking advice, which I got and am ok with.  What people don’t need is to be made to feel worse than they already do when asking a question or two.
I read other threads but I didn’t find one where are one person has been let go so thought I’d ask.
I have not seen this as a free holiday in the slightest.

I don't think the reply was aimed at you.
There have been many threads on here where the basic question was "My emplyoyer wants me back, I'm happy being paid 80% for doing nothing and wanting an excuse not to go back". They weren't worded like that but once you peeled back all the fluff that is basically what they were saying.

Your post here is not in that category. You were, not unreasonably, asking the right questions regarding what measures they have in place to protect staff and customers. Unfortunately for you, probably in light of their recent good performance, they have decided they can carry on without one supervisor which is bad luck on your part. Whether you asking questions had any bearing on that decision only your employer can answer that but I would not expect them to, publicly at least, say it had any bearing on their decision to let you go.
