How to isolate a bed from the building?

  • Have you seen your doctor about your snoring issues ?
Do you think you may have sleep apnoea ?
I have a friend who is the worst snorer you could possibly imagine . We all have a laugh and joke about how bad he is when we stayed over in bed and breakfasts / each other's places etc . He had sleep apnoea, but has lost a lot of weight and doesn't wear mask any more . He spent a lot on private treatment .
    Anyway, just a thought ..

A tangential action would be, if you don't already know, to measure how loud your snoring is.  You say it is at the level of 50p earplugs - but is that knowledge or assumption?  Some people have no idea how loud theirs is, and snoring can be over 100 dB.  Measured loudness would be useful information for seeking treatment if yours is indeed worryingly loud.

I've amended No 1 in my list of choices

Coffeehound, do you know why you have this snoring issue? If it's really as bad as you say, then it could very possibly also be a risky medical issue.
What have you done to try and sort it?

Thanks for the further posts.  Heh, this is turning into an overshare, but, yes after a similar thread here a couple of years ago, posters strongly advised to get it checked out, so I duly booked in with the GP.

At the consultation, GP said I needed to have bloods taken before any referral could go ahead, which were taken a week or two later.  A couple of weeks further on I get a message that something went wrong with the first tests, so I needed to go back for more bloods.  2nd sample taken, then silence.  Covid lockdown comes along, so I assume the sleep clinic is shut.  Towards the end of lockdown I write to the GP to confirm that I am still on the waiting list.  A few days later, the GP phones to apologise that the referral was lost down the cracks and I was never on the waiting list.  A few days later again, and I get a request to book for blood samples to be taken . .

By that time I knew I was out of there so did not bother.  Have now joined a new practice so will have to start again.  I did actually buy a CPAP machine but it's buried somewhere in my storage unit.

Yes @theoretica I don't mean to downplay the disturbance to others; particularly obstructive sleep apnoea must sound extremely unpleasant, but I haven't recorded it.  I do try to sleep on my side rather than back and use cusions to raise the upper torso a bit.  With the bungee bed, the cords were calculated to have the top end of the bed 6" higher than the foot which is supposed to help.

Anyway, last night was yet another miserable rumble through until about 4am.  Anyway, the plan is:

    1) Get booked in with GP
    2) Attempt to contact LL to request early surrender at the 6-month point (mid-January)
    3) If 2) doesn't happen, then build Bungee Bed Mk.II and hope this neighbour doesn't discover ultrasonics.

TY for the info and advice 👍🏿

Well there must be some consolation in the fact that your neighbour is also not getting any sleep.
These machines will affect him also.
If he sleeps during the day invite someone with small children to visit. They rise early and play all day no one can touch you for it.
Oh and they are illegal. I looked into it thoroughly some time ago to deal with my neighbours renovation 12hrs a day for 7mts. It's quite satisfying looking at them on YouTube though. Do you have speakers?

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

  • The only things to add if I may ; when this nightmare situation has ended , make sure the next place is properly carpeted . No wooden flooring or concrete floors.
    Heavy curtains if necessary .
Being a side sleeper is lucky for you imho , as lying on your back could be fatal.
Sleepphones do work in bed when listening to music etc .

    I'll leave it there..

Do it! Sleep apnea has a poor prognosis. Sleep on your side / abdomen until you get that referral.

I don't snore as a rule (am a very light sleeper but did wake up with a snort one night and that was very disturbing. Like waking up when dreaming you have tripped, horrid.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
