Card got declined at asda today. Used my mobile for contactless payment instead (Barclays app) Unsure what the usp of curve is now (esp as you can't pay HMRC with it any more without paying a fee or subscription)

Personally not had a problem with using my curve card it’s especially useful when using it abroad. It has been my every day used card even more so since it was able to be used  with Apple Pay.

It’s not Curves fault that Wirecard has had its FCA approval withdrawn. They have been saying over the last 6 months that they are moving from Wirecards processing of payments to there own in house system and to MasterCards payment system. I guess with what’s happening they need to do it faster than they planned.

I for one will keep faith with Curve as it’s done well for me so far and will no doubt continue to do so.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

I am questioning whether Curve is worth it.  In the last year there have been many times when the service hasn’t been available and now this.

Curve is a gimmick.  It was very useful when it was possible to use the card to rack up points and cashback on credit cards without any real spend, but they seem to have closed all the loopholes now.  I'm not referring to ATM withdrawals.

Curve's website states: 'With Curve you only need to carry one card. So you can leave that bulky wallet behind.'

Yesterday's email from Curve contained this: 'please carry a backup card.'  It's not the first time they've advised/told punters to carry another card.

I wouldn’t just carry one card anyway as say when MasterCard goes down which it does from time to time your MasterCard would be declined and the same happens with Visa and Amex.

No payment system is 100% reliable, as has often been said on these forums it’s always better to have a back up card or 2, like many here I have a MasterCard, Visa card and Amex. Which means I always have a payment method if one fails.  Also it’s advisable to have a back up bank account in case something happens.

I'll be sticking with Curve Metal.

The blame for this outage isn't attributable to Curve - it's entirely down to the shady business going on at Wirecard which has affected at least 50 card providers who partner with them in UK. Many are less well known than Curve.

I've been with Curve since 2016 and haven't forgotten past gestures and what great customer service I've had from them. They're good people and the product is decent, offering some unique services that are useful.

Yes, there have been some knockbacks like Amex, but that isn't really a showstopper, especially when Amex are known to carry out financial reviews and close accounts if you take it too far with gaming spend on their cards. Sometimes technical issues have become apparent but Curve do engage with people and sort the issues out.

There is a bandwagon of people who love to hate Curve who are rubbing their hands at this setback but I would suggest in this instance the criticism of Curve is misplaced.

Let's wait and see what happens. Lots of firms are being affected by this Wirecard scandal. Some offer accounts to people who aren't able to get them with legacy banks and it's tragic that so many people have lost access to their funds. I hope all, pull through this and are able to continue with their business.

As a customer I am rooting for Curve and hope they will recover from this.

I have not had a card that has been unavailable anywhere near as often as Curve has.  That is not taking a pop at Curve, it is a fact.
  • Anyone else had a load of verification transactions on the cards attached to their Curve account yesterday??

Not used mine in six months, and no intention of using it in the future as I don't really use the cards attached to it for purchases any more, but finding the timing of these re-verifications interesting.

Have contacted Curve asking them to close my account and delete my data. Let's see what response I get.

i believe i was sent an email or read it on their website  informing me that a curve verification check was going to take place
it was around 3am and it wasn't unexpected so i'm not worried.
hopefully theres nothing untoward about it
  • Yes I had one for £0.00
I suspect they are checking their Wirecard replacement system.
