My MOT expires on 22nd July. I am over 70 and would prefer not to take it to a testing centre at the moment especially as I am hardly using my car.. Is the 6 month extension still in force and do i get notified or when will it show up on the government wensite with date of next month changed. Thank You

The extension still applies at the moment but obviously this can change, the extention only kicks in 7 days before the expiry date so if they change policy on or before the 15th July you will be out of luck.

Is it likely to pass or is it likely to need work. If likely to pass then i would risk it and get the extention, if it needs work a) it isnt safe and b) if policy changes before then you may up with no mot for a whileAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

I appreciate your not using the car very much or not at all currently and why you would be tempted to take the extension however unless you can be certain that the car is still roadworthy then is it worth the risk?
I can’t see them offering the 6 month extension for much longer because that is a lot of cars already potentially being unroadworthy and accidents waiting to happen.0 -
It will automatically change to 22 January 2021. You don't need to do anything. You should see the new date on the dvla website from around 16 July.
Just keep an eye on the official site:

This 6 month extension has come into effect for 12 months, see here https://www.gov.uk/government/news/vehicle-owners-to-be-granted-mot-exemption-in-battle-against-coronavirus, so there is no danger of the new rule being reverted between now and when your MoT is due.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks Silvercar. We are in the same position and have not been out for 15 weeks so would rather not risk it either.
I was toying with the idea of asking the garage to come and ketch it and paying them for doing so.0 -
I did not realise the 6 month MOT extension was to be in place for a year. I put my car on SORN as soon as lockdown started. The MOT was due 30th March, so got the 6 month extension. Will it then be extended again in September? That seems illogical.0

My MOT expires in July> i hardly think the government are going to change the 6 month extension for any MOT expiring in July or August. As this would result in a rush. I have spoken to my garage who have said they have no knowledge of the extension rules changing. I short notice given it would cause a short term panic which is no good to the customer or them. They did point out you do not have to wait the full 6 months to get your vehicle MOT. If it expires in July you can get an MOT undertaken in October or November. Unless the government change there mind and give short notice (not unknown from the government at the moment) I will be leaving my MOT and service until the Autumn. To my knowledge my car meets all the requirements. tyres etc. I also am not doing a lot of mileage at the moment or for the foreseeable future as I come until cautious people who do not believe we have seen the end of the virus.0

I am not sure what to believe here.
A new MOT on one of my vans is due on the 9th July, I have now been told twice by quick fit that the rules changed in May and that I must go ahead as normal with MOT. Van is good as off the road right now, who do you believe ?0 -

And FGS find somewhere else to take your van for MOT!!!!!If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales2 -
I would be amazed if the government completely retracked over the 12 month extension. Maybe it will be reduced to 3 months. If it is suddenly stopped straight away anyone with a MOT due in July could encounter a problem. As I understand the MOT is automatically extended 7 days before expiry. Until then you cannot be 100% certain.0
