Have to wait and see what they say. If they are furloughing you then probably no point contacting them until they either stop paying you or till the end of the contract. Might as well get as much furlough pay from them as you can and push the redundancy conversation down the road.

If they get the dates wrong and pay you past the contractual end date then all the terms stay the same except there is now no end date.
They need to give you notice that will be 1 week per year(upto 12) or contractual if longer.
  • So, quick update. End of contract date been and gone, no sign of redundancy pay, payslips, P45 or references. Have written polite letter but had no response. Looks like the government only steps in to help if the company is insolvent. Any ideas on what to do next?

If nothing was said did you just stop turning up for work.

  • No, I know they haven't renewed my contract as they said so in a memo to all staff telling them that three members of staff weren't returning from furlough. Still no redundancy pay or anything official from the company.

Why would you not be on the phone asking them about this?

Agree that this is not a redundancy. You signed up for a fixed amount of time, which is now coming to the end. Everything is exactly as you agreed it when you took on the role.
That said, in my last role I managed a number of people on FTCs and we had to give them notice if/when we were not going to renew or extend the contract. I think it was three weeks' notice, but that will vary place to place (and indeed there may be no such requirement at your place). Might be worth checking your contract or speaking with HR if that's an option.
It is a redundancy if the role is no longer there in terms of the 5 fair reasons for dismissal. This is a common misconception that FTC are not redundancies because they 'know what they signed up for'. It can only be a fair dismissal if the role is truly no longer there. You cannot choose to not renew a FTC because you don't like someone's attitude for example and then choose to employ someone else on the same contract. OP - You should still be given some kind of notice that your role is not to be renewed which should be at least statutory but they could also argue that you had this in your contract as the date. In my experience, FTCs aren't always managed correctly! If your role is no longer there then your reason for dismissal is redundancy, whether or not you attract a redundancy payment will depend on your length of service...
