I think it would be much more considerate and polite not to leave a nearly full bin.  The tips are open.

How will you feel if you get to your new property and the bin is 3/4 full?  I would try and visit the tip to get rid of the rubbish before I left if it was me.  Having said that, where we live we have to provide our own bins - I couldn't believe it.  When we arrived there was no bin!  I had to go out and buy one.

Personally, I wouldn't stress about the bin or too much about cleaning.  The second thing I do when moving in is to give everything a clean while its empty.

can you not take stuff to the tip before moving?
Not sure about the OP's council, but in Birmingham you have to book a slot at the local tip and it's about a week wait at the moment, so not sure how that would work!

  • I agree with others here, it might not be a legal requirement to leave the bins empty, but you should leave the property how you’d like to find one when you move in for the first time...

Its the right thing to do.

Our vendor made a point of ringing us up to apologise that the bins were half full which was nice
I did not stress at all as this was firmly in my first world problem list

Mine has been open weeks, at worst its normally a half hour wait and no need to book

I have a question on this:

Planning on emptying the bins before leaving, however in the fixtures/fittings forms I said I would be leaving the compost bin.
Do I need to empty the compost bin? It's full of... well, compost, eggshells and all.

My later mother moved the contents of our compost bins several times that I can remember (and these were massive things). After all, you did put the time and effort into making it.
