CIFAS

Hello,
I made a DSAR with CIFAS, And have been informed that Metro Bank Plc made a search into my Name and address, but apart from that, there is nothing on the report - I used all of my contact details That i have ever used , including all phone numbers , email addresses and addresses. I am unsure what to do now, as It is starting to cause me a lot of grief with Opening a bank account - Someone help please !!

  • Does it say "Metro bank undertook a search on your name and address", if so then this is harmless, a search by a bank on your CIFAS report won't prevent you opening an account anywhere. The only thing related to CIFAS which prevents you from having/opening accounts is a CIFAS category 6 and category 4 markers.

If this is the only thing that came up on your CIFAS DSAR then it's probably your credit score preventing you from opening a bank account? Maybe try a basic bank account?

What's showing in the credit history on all your files (free from MSE credit club, credit karma and Clearscore) as that's what banks and financial institutions go off. Ignore the score / rating as it's not seen or used by any financial institution as they have their own internal scoring system.

How many accounts have you tried to open in the last 6 months?
How many times have you moved address in the last 6 years?
Have you been on the electoral roll at all addresses?
Are you working or surviving on benefits?
Do you have late / missed payments, CCJs, IVA, bankruptcy, defaults showing on your credit history? If so, age, amount and if settled.
Are you new to the UK?
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
