Passport expiry date

Hi, I am due to fly to Cape Verde on the 5th September 2020 for 1 week. My passport expires 15th March 2021 will I have to renew or will I be OK as it is just within the 6 months required?

I’m waiting to see what happens towards the end of this year. I have a holiday booked for November, so don’t intend renewing before then.

If the rules haven’t changed by then I will have to renew or risk not being able to travel to Europe. It’s a pain because I already have an Esta attached to this passport. My last holiday coincided with a BA strike and we were re routed via Miami and Madrid, I wonder what would have happened If my passport hadn’t been valid to go through Madrid?
