  • I had a Cruise booked departing 23 June 2020. The current pandemic blew all arrangements out of the water and is giving me headaches which will hopefully be settled painlessly. Here is the timeline for the various conflicting elements

At time of booking I held annual travel insurance for my wife and I. This was an annually recurring arrangement covering 1st May to 30th April.

Booked with Cruise company paid deposit with debit card                 2-Dec-2019

Notice of Increase in Annual Insurance received                                early March

Cancellation of annual policy                                                               approx 9 Mar 2020

New single trip policy                                                                           10 Mar 2020

Notice to pay balance of Cruise                                                           18 Mar 2020

balance paid by credit card                                                                  20 Apr 2020

Credit card bill paid                                                                               20 Apr 2020

Cruise cancellation notice from cruise company                                  07 May 2020

Refund request to cruise company                                                       21 May 2020,

    Received cruise company acknowledgement/acceptance but
advising it may take up to 4 months. I felt that was reasonable
    due to circumstances
                             23 May 2020

    So :-

if cruise company settle their obligation everthing is fine except can I reclaim the single trip insurance?

If cruise company renege       Do I claim from annual insurance valid at time of booking

    Or

Do I claim from insurance valid at time of cancellation

    Or

Do I claim from Credit card Company

All advice (other than 'Lie down in darkened room') welcome

  • I think you will just have to wait and see.   The cruise company have told you it may take 4 months which you said you feel is reasonable so as it has only just been a month, why panic?     You would have to claim from the insurance policy currently in force but if a refund is in hand by cruise company I don't think they will look at a claim at this moment.  I doubt you will get your premium back if you don't eventually claim from insurance, as they are there covering you now.

You could instigate a chargeback or section 75 and see which arrives first?   But if you are happy to wait I would just wait.

I have split this out into its own thread as it was not related to a holiday home booking

  • it may be a t and c of your insurance that you notify them as soon as you are aware of any potential claim so i would at least contact them now not in 3-4 months and make them aware.

if you name the cruise company, someone on here may already have experienced their refund process, which might (or might not :o) give you some reassurance
