You won't be able to open an account 'in her name' unless she is proven to have a mental incapacity. And why not just encourage her to spend the lot?! She can't take it with her.robti said:
Yes you know her 🙂, tried a few times for the bank switch but no she has been with them for ever and won’t change, so will try opening an another account in her namemissile said:It works for me. I think you should invest it in gold. I know prices are down again but there are chances that it will spike again with high quotes.0

At 85 I think it would be more appropriate to invest in gold taps for the bathroom - you can't take it with you so at least enjoy it!

Yes a prepaid funeral is a good idea. Mine is with the Co-op. It also means that whoever is left behind doesn't have to worry about paying for it - other than the wake.

We treated ourselves to some M & S food recently. There was a lovely couple in front of us who, in my best estimate, must have been 90. They had 3 bags of shopping and it cost £65 ish. We watched as the staff packed their shopping, told them loudly how much it was and helped them with their cash payment. One of the staff then phoned for a taxi.
That would be a lovely way to spend some spare cash!0 -
If my mother had a couple of grand floating around I’d be suggesting something that would give her pleasure. Not a flipping funeral plan. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
