Reporting dangerous driving

Great, then we're all in agreement.shaun_from_Africa said:
I agree, I've seen enough of that type of video on youtube.
But to try and pretend no dashcam vid EVER shows that would just be denial of reality. As to your comment of:
Great, then you agree totally with..."But to try and pretend no dashcam vid EVER shows that would just be denial of realityWhere did you get that from? because I never stated or even implied it.Nobody said this applied to your situation. We haven't seen the video, just four stills.
If MinuteNoodles wan't implying that what they wrote didn't apply to my situation, why state:
You can infer what you wish."It would be interesting to actually view the recorded video of it"?The only possible thing that can be inferred from that is that they think there is a possibility that I sped up.
I certainly didn't infer that from his comment. And I don't believe he implied it.
All he said is what I repeated, and you agreed with: That some DCWs do do exactly that, and we haven't seen your video.
I'm sure the manufactured-situation DCWs would also deny having manufactured the situation.
For the benefit of clarity - I am making no judgement on your driving either way, because I haven't seen the video, just four stills...0 -
Whatever, the police will decide if there's anything to answer for.
Taking it at face value it looks like a pretty bad overtake in more ways than one.

I read the post in the same way as Shaun did. The inference is "Don't report it as you make plenty of mistakes yourself, and who's to say that you (Shaun) didn't speed up to make it seem worse". To me, the implication is so clear it has flashing lights and sirens. 🚨AdrianC said:

Wow you couldn't have got that more wrong. I drive 44 tonne lorries 400-500 miles PER DAY and you ought to see what I have to put up with from car and van drivers. Twice last night alone I had the "must get past the lorry at all costs" when there were lane closures, looking in my mirror to see a car determined to get past me and start to overtake as the cones were already closing the lane down so I just did what I normally do and back off to give them enough room to recover from the mess they created, give em a coffee shaker sign out of the driver's window as they pass and get on with my life. I've done over 100,000 miles per year point and accident free for over two decades, most likely doing more mileage in that time than you would do driving your car if you lived to be 200. How about you? If you've ever had points or an accident since passing your test you're a worse driver than me as it's been over 2 million miles since my last. And I've done this despite people doing things like waiting at a give way at a side road on my left then deciding just as I get to where the curb starts to bend round to the left and the dashed lines start as I'm approaching at 50 miles an hour in a lorry weighing 35+ tonnes that that's a good time to pull out and cross in front of me as they're turning right requiring me to slam all on, lock up 6 axles even though they've got ABS and EBS and to stall a lorry with an automatic gearbox I've had to brake so hard. That's a near miss.shaun_from_Africa said:
The fact that you seem to think that this was a simply a misjudgement could say a lot about your standard of driving.
It was a decent enough straight bit of road, the fact there's those entrances is neither here nor there - I've seen traffic police overtake when there's been such entrances and where I live on a main tourist route to the seaside you'd never get anywhere and be stuck behind plobbing holidaymakers doing 30MPH in a 60 for 20 miles if you didn't overtake where those were.
Your posts and your comments smack of someone who doesn't actually drive that much and rarely in the countryside on single carriage roads. Perhaps you should stick to driving around your local town.1 -
I don't live in a town. I live in a small village and the road in question is one that I drive on on a very regular basis.MinuteNoodles said:Your posts and your comments smack of someone who doesn't actually drive that much and rarely in the countryside on single carriage roads. You may well drive an awful lot more than me but the tone of your post does IMO, put you firmly in the "I'm a perfect driver who can't possibly do anything wrong" category, and this sort of driver is as bad as the one who made the dangerous overtaking move on me, something that this comment reaffirms:so I just did what I normally do and back off to give them enough room to recover from the mess they created, give em a coffee shaker sign out of the driver's window as they passWhy would a responsible driver intentionally do something that could well wind up another driver?

Thing is you have started a thread and posted the pictures online. That is enough for the police to lose interest and bin it.shaun_from_Africa said:
I didn't speed up. I was initially doing 48 mph (it's a 50 mph limit) and slowed to about 40 mph when I noticed the van overtaking. The reason I've not posted the full video is because it's been passed to the police (do you think I would have done that if it showed me speeding up to try to cause an accident?).MinuteNoodles said:It would be interesting to actually view the recorded video of it as often it turns out in situations like this that dashcam boy has sped up to create a situation for camera that needn't have occurred. Also if you read the Highway Code it'll mention about giving way to overtaking vehicles so the fact you had to slow a little isn't any indication. The person most likely misjudged it, just as I'm sure you've made plenty of misjudgements in your time. Nobody died, nobody got hurt, all that happened was people had to use the pedal that's provided to slow their vehicles down.
No, it wasn't a simple misjudgement. The van driver was just about at the speed limit so to overtake required them to exceed the limit and there was an oncoming car with headlight on so clearly visible and there were two entrances to the road, one of which is shown in the pictures.
You also seem to have missed the point that the driver of the oncoming car didn't just have to "slow a little". They had to almost stop and pull hard left to avoid having a head on impact.
The fact that you seem to think that this was a simply a misjudgement could say a lot about your standard of driving.0 -

Based on the screen shots a decent lawyer/solicitor will have the van owner having no case to answer within 10 mins in any case.0 -
Do you mean the screenshots that don't show anything that could possibly identity the driver, the vehicle or the person (me) who did the filming?tommyedinburgh said:100% correct.

Yes those ones, unless you're saying the footage used in court has a different van and is on a different road. You put it out in the public domain, it probably doesn't matter with a traffic offence but if it were say a murder there'd be an argument for charging you.shaun_from_Africa said:
