Apprenticeships

My son is doing an apprenticeship and he has been told that he will go back to work after being  furloughed but will only work 1 week in 2 and only be paid for what he works.  Are his employers allowed to do this?

What does his contract say? Surely they can just do the part time furlough?
  • Well his contract is for full time but with furlough I'm not sure if they are able to do this hence me asking.

What would be the other option?  Pay him off?  Get him to ask his Apprenticeship provider, the organisation that is overseeing his apprenticeship.

Don't see why they can't part time furlough him if he already is furloughed.

I work for a apprenticeship provider, the fact he is an apprentice makes no difference to other employees regarding furloughed. . Really they should be looking at the part time furloughed. Strictly speaking working under 30 hours a week and not furloughed is against the funding rules for an apprenticeship unless special circumstances such as the apprentice cares for someone etc , so its something you could take up with the provider who can then advise the employer they are in breach of the apprenticeship agreement.
