Apprenticeships

Hi my Son is 19 on an Apprenticeship, his employer told him on Monday that he will not be Furloughing him just making him redundant, or told him he needs to claim SSP (but he's not ill or self-employed, just been finished due to these circumstances at the moment) We have contacted him but he has blanked my Son - no comment from him. My Son has contacted his Assessor from the Apprenticeship who said the College can find him another Employer. However his own Employer has not given him an end date for the Redundancy so he owes him 1 weeks pay plus 6days accrued holiday pay. My Son has now claimed for UC but still no answer from his Employer.
Is he doing the right thing...
Regards D

I feel very sorry for your son, but I am not sure what question you are asking? If it is how to recover the pay he is owed, and he cannot get his employer to talk to him, he could try ACAS, but for the amounts involved is it worth it? Perhaps it would be worth discussing the issue with his assessor?
  • My son is doing an apprenticeship and he has been told that he will go back to work after being  furloughed but will only work 1 week in 2 and only be paid for what he works.  Are his employers allowed to do this?

It depends on the terms of his apprenticeship.

Hi, I work for an apprenticeship provider, we are expecting more news to come from government this week regarding redundant learners. However these are the current ESFA rules regarding redundancy, (the you is us the training provider).

If they have less than 6 months until their planned end date the ESFA will fund 100% of the training until completion however, you should support them to find a new employer where possible.

If they have between 6-12 months until their planned end date then the ESFA will fund 100% for up to 12 weeks whilst they seek a new employer. If no new employer is found in this time then they must be withdrawn.

If they have more than 12 months until their planned end date there is no period of 100% funding & they must find a new employer to support their apprenticeship from the point they are made redundant.
