Cheap Energy Club

Options
Re the CHEAP ENERGY CLUB recommendations regarding Tonik being a better deal regarding my power supplies that is for both gas and electricity, I switched suppliers from Avro to Tonik via the Cheap Energy Club. However only my electricity was switched, so now I am being supplied with electricity from Tonic and gas from Avro. So now I am trying to correct this shambles with great difficulty by arranging for both electricity and gas from one supplier for which I will probably be billed for extra costs. Not a happy bunny.

Have you read the recent feedback about Tonik?

Generally having gas and electricity from a single supplier is not necessarily a good financial idea.  Before you jump up and down too much do some sums.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

My current energy deal is soon to end, but my current supplier (Utility Point) have offered me better rates than the best the cheap energy club can and nowhere are Utility Point listed in the cheap energy club. Is there something going on I should know about?

Yes, the CEC doesn't show all suppliers, contrary to what it says on the tin.
Similarly, it won't show Neon Reef, nor will it alert Neon Reef customers if a cheaper tariff becomes available.

Curious. Both Utility Point and Neon Reef have the same address, with some of the same officers listed at companies house.

Try starting with Consumers Advice and 'Switch with Which?' comparison sites, then try a few more in case they have exclusive deals.  You can always return to the CEC to see whether any cashback is available, but if you've found a good deal it probably won't be.

Neon Reef is the online only version of Utilty Point.
Read the reviews on this site about Utility Point before making any decision

You still beating that broken drum?

I would have hoped @Kitchen_Sink would have put you in the full picture months ago

    What's broken?
    • Do you disagree that the you should start from annual kWh usage figure?  If so, what do you suggest?
    • Do you disagree with using actual meter readings?  Do you think that guesses based on type of property, number of people or the phase of the moon will be more accurate?
    • Do you think that your choice should be limited to the narrow market, i.e. only the expensive suppliers that pay commission?  Most comparison sites default to that, which is why always I suggest starting with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?' because they don't attempt to limit your selection in this way.
The MSE guidance is quite good, but sadly the CEC that it recommends does NOT honour its promise to show all suppliers. However, there's nothing to stop you getting the best of all worlds by including the CEC as well.
