Payed for holiday by direct debit TUI

Hi I can't seem to find any advice regarding this, I pay for my holiday by direct debit as I don't have a credit card and is the most convenient way for me , TUI cancelled my holiday which was due in may gave me a credit note refund which is not convenient and I asked for a cash refund I'm being told different stories everytime I ring, how do I stand with getting my money back for holiday when I payed by direct debit? I know if you pay by credit card you have more rights, but what are your rights when paying for things by direct debit?

There is a long running existing TUI thread which probably provides the answers.
You can still use "chargeback" with a debit cardEx forum ambassador

I really dont see the confusion. Their website makes it crystal clear you can cash in a refund credit note for cash.0

Here is the relevant part from the TUI website:If you’re unable to accept a refund credit and you have already received your refund credit code, please use our refund request form to apply for a cash refund.

So - do you have the refund credit code?

Follow pollycat’s link but do be aware the refunds for those paying by direct debit are done by a different tram and there have been issues with delays in getting those particular refunds.0

I guess it depends what 'different stories' the Op gets when she rings.If it is the dates the refund should be paid by, I think TUI have been changing the dates they expected to do refunds by so it's possible that the OP was told 'different stories' in good faith as that was the information the TUI agent had at the time the OP rang up.Key question to be answered by the OP is:do you have your refund credit code?0

She must have, her OP says "gave me a credit note refund"
All she has to do is fill this in. No phone call needed and this form has been on the TUi website for about a month now, maybe longer:

My holiday was supposed to be 20th may they cancelled,
It's been 6 weeks since I requested the cash refund with TUI,
I called my my regarding the charge back but they said no?!0 -
What I'm really wanting to know is should they continue to not give me the cash back, can I go to the bank for charge back?
What are your rights when paying by direct debit for holidays or large purchase? Say the company go bust etc?
As I regularly pay for all my holidays and festivals this way, am I covered by anything via the bank or any rights?0 -
