Given the cost imposed by TUI, had you considered using a different airline and flying into a different UK airport such as Manchester or Newcastle.

The cost of hiring a car to travel back to Glasgow would be far less than the cost of transporting the cat with TUI.

€40 for cabin, €60 for hold

from the booking your animals on the flight section.
It is important to know that TUI fly does not transport unaccompanied animals, pregnant animals or animals less than 12 weeks old. In addition, due to strict legal regulations, animals cannot be transported from or to Great Britain, Ireland or Sweden.

That was only a documented example of the costs.
I don't know what these legal regulations are but cats and dogs are regularly brought into the UK as either cabin or hold luggage from other parts of Europe and further away on a daily basis. That is where the pet passport comes into play for EU countries and a few others.

Thankyou for ALL the replies. As someone pointed out the animal needs to go on the same flight, have also found out that the reception centre at Glasgow only opens from Mon-Fri if you need it Sat/Sun you have to pay additional costs, The one TUI flight to Glasgow from Rhodes right now only fly on a Saturday.
Anyway we are now having our cat transported by road free of charge by someone we no who is driving to UK 4 days after we leave.

What a hero!  I can't imagine anything worse than driving with a cat in the car for such a long journey.  What is he going to do with it each night?
Cats that are not used to travelling in cars (ie most cats) don't enjoy the experience much.  I once took a cat a couple of hundred miles and after five minutes in the car it had provoked a bout of diarrhoea that stank appallingly even after the basket had its newspaper replaced.  I was very tempted to tip it out of the car and let it go.

Just to endorse the issue of cats and cars, I agreed to transport a cat from Hull to Croydon, a somewhat shorter distance, I had planned to stop and spend the night with the cat at home but the noise he made was off the scale and I decided to take the cat the whole way and get rid of the problem the same day. I love cats and they generally love me back, but never again

Domestic cats can have a wide variety of characters and tolerance of situations such as travel in vehicles, perhaps the OP's is known to be reasonably adaptive.

When I lived in Kabul I had an intelligent and fearless cat who, when invited, would jump in the van with me and ride perched on the passenger seat to go and visit friends. He would march proudly into a previously unknown house, subduing even the fiercest dogs with just his demeanour and perhaps a brief warning gesture.
    Evolution, not revolution
