get mice in the loft most winters, one year I caught 25, just can't find how they get in
I have about 15 traps in my 2 lofts, I now use the mice poisoned wheat  I put glue on the plate/bowl then put wheat on glue (don't want them running off with wheat and dying stink the loft out) tried lots of other food but found the wheat to be best for me, tried the ultrasonic scarers some worked some didn't, but you don't know if the ultrasonic is working as you can't hear it

If you see a mouse or rat chances are there is more than one. Best to put traps, if they dont work, put poison out. You can get poison that dry's the carcass out so don't get the horrific smells. Once the poison stops getting taken, need to seal up all the possible holes with steel or copper wool and then cement over. You can also get a special cement based sealer but is costly at about £12 a tube which goes in an applicator gun.  The reason why it best not to block the holes up immediately is if there is a small number of rodents they will go back out to seek water when they are about to die, otherwise they may die in the property. If there is lots of rodents then sealing the holes might be a better option. Rodents breed very quickly so best to get this problem sorted quickly otherwise it soon leads to a infestation and the risk of property damage, especially electrical cables.

I had them in the loft and they were feeding in the kitchen. Luckily, poison bait behind the kick panels in the kitchen did the job, because I don't know how they were getting up there. Either they were climbing up in the cavity or where the soil stack has been boxed in.

Soil stack is a common entrance point for rodents. As the soil stack is usually boxed in, the rodents travel from the sewer stright up along the soil pipe into the loft.
