Mice in Loft

Options
Around a month ago when in my loft I discovered a fair amount of mouse droppings. I had not heard any noise or scratching from the loft. I laid six traps in total around the loft and have checked them daily, It has taken a month a a fury friend has met is end. Given its taken a month to trap one, how do I go about getting the rest more quickly? I am pressuming they don't move in alone and the amount of droppings I found looked like more than one was in residence.  The thing is I can't hear them at all. I have also checked all around the house and behind kitchen cuboards etc and no sign excpet in the loft!

I think they could be from my neigbours garden which is a jungle as no one has lived in the house for two years and I can't trace the owners as the address on the Land Registry deeds is that of the property.

Any advice on if it could be caused by one mouse or how to catch the blighters more effectivly would be great.

Long time ago I experienced the same. Caught one mouse, and have never heard/seen anything in the loft since then.
And no, you don't need 'jungle' nearby to have mice. In the gardens they are everywhere, you just don't see them.

I get mice in the garage from time to time. One made it into the house once. As a precaution I have traps in the garage, un-baited along the walls next to the internal door. Every now and again one gets caught - almost always in Autumn or Winter. Mice like cover and to stay close to the edge of rooms, if the traps are placed perpendicular to the wall, sooner or later the mouse will run over it and trigger it. Bait is unnecessary and to me seems unfair as the smell may entice mice in, to an extent exacerbating the problem.

Yep loading them with peanut butter. I was up in the loft today lifting the insulation as I had a strange grey patch appearing on my ceiling where there are no pipies above and no sign of water damage on the boards from the ceiling. round the remnants of sa nest. Suspect there could be another in the insulation but I cant get to it.

Not in my experience, I have had one plugged in for a year and a mouse was still in the loft

You need to get the traps in the right place. We had pest control in recently (we thought we had a rat up there because of the noise). He put down several large traps baited with Snickers - it was all we had lol. That same night the traps caught one pregnant field mouse and a male field mouse which must have been starting to nest. The traps were placed right down in the eaves along the edge where mice run, they tend not to cross spaces but scuttle around the edges, low down. He also found an absolutely tiny hole behind a gutter that I had missed which is where they must have been getting in and then climbing the cavity. There isn't any need to get pest control in - you just have to think like a mouse.

I am skeptical. They probably work the same way the tiger-repelling crisp packet works in my garden - the whole time that crisp packet has been there, I haven't seen a tiger.
