Just need to have a vent!
This has been going on for ages, and seems nothing can be done about it. Spoken to the people in question - no joy.  Contacted the council - no joy. Seems like it does not qualify for Double Yellow Lines  - Except for 6 years ago when they added them due to a diversion being in place, then a month later removed them when it was over. (This is a bus and HGV route)
The amount of missed bin collections we've had as the binmen can't get to our bins due to cars parked like this. I tend to put them out very early the day before collection as soon as a cars gone. Did this yesterday, bloke stopped in the road, moved the bin out his way to park there. Then clambered over our wall to get out, and back in this morning.
The fact that at most times of the day we have to perform aerobics, climbing over the wall with shopping or the dog just to enter/leave our property.
Council advise informing the police, as they are the only ones that can ticket, but certainly don't want to start dragging them into it. Better to come on here and have a vent!

Anyone in a pram or wheelchair couldn't get past that, that's appalling.
They've not even put their wing mirrors in. (wouldn't help much, but would at least show an attempt)

Agree with JamoLew - be a right shame if something happened to their car because of their inconsiderate parking.

If the bins were there first, then the driver should be making an assessment on the "safety" of parking there and the risks in doing so.

I honestly don't think that would hold up in court.
Even if the bins were there first, the householder is still legally responsible for ensuring that they are safe. If they could get blown onto a parked car, they could just as easily get blown onto a passing vehicle or on to someone walking or cycling past.

Is there actually anywhere suitable for people to park outside their homes there?

You can’t vandalise someone’s car just because it’s annoying.

The car seems to be legally parked and although annoying I don’t see what you can do about it.

The other side of the road people park as you would normally expect, on the road next to the pavement. That's the side the majority of people walk along.
I have no issues with people parking on the pavement my side, it's just when they park across the enterance like this that really winds me up.

Exactly why I have posted here to have a vent

  • It'd wind me up as well OP. I wouldn't do anything malicious on purpose, I just wouldn't take much care when walking past with bags etc. Why should you have to perform gymnastics to get in your home just because some **** wants to park like that.
  • The police can fine people for obstruction of the highway, which includes cars parked on the pavement that impede pedestrians. Isn't that the case here? This HoC Transport Committee report on pavement parking may also be of interest:
Some police forces allow the public to report and submit digital footage showing potential traffic offences, as part of Operation Snap. So you could search for 'Operation Snap <your police force>'.
