Outfox The Market's Clean VE 3 is 7.717p standing charge for my area, if you're OK dealing with a supplier kept afloat by sales of ludicrously overpriced Fischer heaters!

How far away is the outhouse ??
Would it be practical / cost effective to have the meter removed & connect the outhouse to the house supply ??

I'm in the same situation, I've signed up with Octopus and Bulb though as I'm getting a £50 bonus credit for signing up - That will pay for most of the standing charge and their usage charges are lower than Ebico too.
  • When my house was built in 2014, through no fault of my own, Taylor Wimpey put a separate meter in my garage for which I am paying £90 p.a.standing charge. This seems like an utter rip off when I am only using about £2 of electricity p.a. I believe there should at the very least be a discount for a second meter in a garage. In this hi tech age of WiFi isnt there some way a signal can be sent from a garage to a main house to record usage on one meter. If not, why not?

You have two independent supplies, so you need to pay for two supplies.
You could have your garage disconnected, then you would not need to pay for that supply.
On the upside, there's a fair chance you'll get two £400 government handouts this winter, not one.

If it is really only £2 per year that is 8KWh. What are you using the electricity for?

You might consider a small power station battery, size and cost depending on what you need it for and potentially helpful in case of a black out either deliberate or after a storm. You will need to investigate  the disconnection charges for meter removal if you go this route. For gas they can be expensive.

With a current standing charge of more like £170 I assume you are still on a cheap fixed tariff?

Your future proof for when you get an EV, If you installed a charger now you could even rent it out to the public using an app.

Isn't that preferable to starting yet another standing charge thread?

If people have a separate supply just to provide lighting in an out building just get rid of the supply and install a solar led lighting solution.
