Hello all,
I've had to VT my car, 
They came to collect it today.
The company that was sent to pick it up did an inspection and then told me I was going to be charged £445.
For a small scuff on the alloy, a paint scratch on the back of the boot missing service history and a missing key.
The car is 7 years old and has 130,000 miles on it.
I've read the contract with moneyway and it only says I have to take reasonable care of the vehicle and keep it road worthy 
It has been serviced but I don't have the relevant paperwork the car doesn't have the service light on because it's not due yet.
It doesn't say in the contract I need to keep the service history just that it has to be insured and MOT
The agreement was a hire purchase

Am I right in fighting the charges they are try to get out of me

    Depends what you signed when you instigated the right to terminate.

    I didn't sign anything, I sent a letter and email telling them I wanted to voluntary terminate my agreement. They phoned up about a day later and said ok we'll send someone to pick the car up 
    I've read over the contract again and it just states the normal ware and tare is acceptable

    A missing key is not fair wear and tear and could account for up to half of that amount. No service documentation will reduce the value of the car - how can you prove it has been serviced ?

    Wow, they expect a lot from a 7 year old used car don't they,
    I lost the key years ago unfortunately.
    I suppose I could try and get copies of the invoice for services, but the car has a message on the dash when it needs servicing and that hasn't come back on yet

    Any issues on the car when you acquired it should have been logged at that time, and so not taken into account on return.

    How long have you had it?

    As far as the service history goes - if you were buying a car, and the vendor said "Oh, yes, it's been fully serviced, honest - but the previous owner didn't think he needed to keep the paperwork, so you'll have to believe me...", what would your reaction be...? Exactly... Dash service indicators are usually trivially easy to reset.

    No the car has was ok when I brought it nothing I noticed. But I'm not a mechanic or anything but would say it was fine, did come with two keys but I can only find one so I suppose that's on me.

    Had the car 3 years I've paid £1200 over the 50% mark just can't afford to keep it currently.

    As for the servicing I didn't realise it was a mandatory thing to have to keep track of, I had it serviced when the dash told me to

    And there y'go - they aren't looking at 7yrs of wear and tear, just 3. And how many of those 130k miles?

    The car had just under 40k when I brought it so I've do about 90k in the time I've had it.
    The key is probably in a box somewhere from when I moved house.
    I just think it's a bit excessive to expect the car to be in showroom condition for its age and mileage, don't get me wrong I've looked after it the best I can it's my car I wouldn't buy something I needed to use daily to just leave it to rot away. I've looked for cars the same model age and mileage+/- and none of them are perfect and I dont think anyone but a car that age and use would expect perfection surly?

    I've brought cars in the past that are 2 years old that only came with one key, the car I've just returned has got the booklet with the key code in it but I couldn't justify paying £100's for a replacement
