Difference in speed between providers help

Hi all, I am planning to switch away from TalkTalk. I currently get up to 23mbps although it is constantly slowing down and cutting out since lockdown started. I have been searching providers and for example EE offer a maximum of 25mbps, but BT Fibre 1 are saying the average is 50mbps. I don't want to get caught out with clever marketing and pay £5 month more on a longer contract if I'm going to get the same speed I have already been getting. So is Fibre 1 really faster if other providers are saying they can only offer 25 despite having the full range of speeds available?
I hope this makes sense. I'm not an expert on BB and worry I'll be paying extra for no reason if my line has this limit regardless. Thanks :-)

Put your phone number into this and it will tell you the sort of VDSL (Fibre) speeds that your line can support.

Ah thank you so much. The absolute max speed I can get is 27mbps so no point paying the extra.BT should not be allowed to advertise average speed on Fibre 1 if they have access to your maximum speed. I was wondering why no other provider was offering it. I thought maybe they had found a way to boost the speed that was unique to them.0

The key word is "Average". No doubt lots of people on Fibre 1 do get the full speed.0

Did you go to the BT website and put your details in? That's where you will get personalised speeds. The average speed is an ASA requirement, completely meaningless but enforced by them so that's why you see it.0

Yes, I did. They offered me two options. The essential broadband at between 11 and 25 mbps, then the Fibre 1 with just 'average 50mbps'. I thought this was confusing as why offer two different packages at two different prices when the end result is the same?

ADSL and FTTC from all ISPs using a BT Openreach line will be the same - more or less (+/- 5 % say due to the 'quality' of the modem-router and how it handles noise on the line).
TT have a good online Community where it would be worth posting your issue (make sure you set up your profile with your landline number - and an alternative mobile number can be useful). The staff (OCEs) are only there Mon-Fri so the sooner the better. https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/custom/page/page-id/ForumIndex
When I moved back to TT from Vodafone they got BT Openreach out to fix a connection outside my house that had got water in. That fixed the poor speed and other issues I had. Since then it's been stable.
I suspect you may have similar problems - but do check all internal wiring (telephone extensions) and that it's not a simple case of congested wifi channels that your router is using as well.

Yes, it's a shame they can't use the Openreach data from the DSL checker. After all, they are the same company - more or less.
Before anyone chimes in, I know they have to operate separately!
