Change of plan, ended up being drawn into Lidl to see if I could get a Salter Airfryer @ £39.99. Decided to do the big shop when I was there so will now not need to go to Tesco next week. Spent £47.16 included red wine, 2 lots of chicken thighs, ice lollies, ice,Heinz beans, biscuits and snacks, veg, eggs and cleaning stuff.on a plus I’ve now emptied out enuf room in the freezer to accommodate a large bag of ice and some lollies. Going to have to work out spends for last 3 weeks now.6

MazzieD saidThe plan for the rest of the month is to only take advantage of fresh fruit and veg offers
Bit of a slip up with my big shop, forgot to put onions on the list, forgot to get, went to the shops again this morning and forgot again!
However, I went to Asd* and managed to get a YS fresh chicken and 2 packs of YS sausages reduced. Popped in to Lid1 to stock up on more Butternut Squash @ 79p per kg, total £7.64
Luckily I am still using up some batch cooked meals from June so can manage without onions for a few days. Might buy an extra kg and peel/chop to pop in the freezer in case I leave my brain at home again. rofl.
Quite pleased with the savings made so far, £6.02 on full prices.
Total so far £48.82 so £51.18 for rest of month.8 -
Hey, I'm in for July. Going to try for £550 again. Hoping to avoid making the same mistakes. Aiming for healthy eating in July, so plenty of veg and pulses, and filling the freezer with batch cooked curries. I'm going to try and make some falafel too, if someone has a good recipe please share. X6

I use a falafel recipe by Tori Avery which uses dried chickpeas rather than tinned and I find they make really good falafel. I bake mine rather than fry though - website here: https://toriavey.com/?s=falafel. Using dried chickpeas means you have to think ahead as they need soaking overnight but I think it's worth it for the result. Also means they're cheaper to make so very MSE!

Having grown up with Lebanese and Greek neighbours and Israeli friends, I will say that using soaked, dried chickpeas is the most authentic version, followed by a version the Egyptians do with soaked, dried broad beans. (I’m sure I don’t have a recipe for that version.)
