Car Insurance NCB and alleged claim

Hi MSE's
After a little advise please.
I have had my licence 14 years and also have protected no claims.
I had never made a claim, but, I managed to clip a kerb the other year, shredding two tyres. I contacted insurer, but after a chat and weighing things up, it worked out cheaper for me to sort myself due to the excess, so that is what I did.
On next renewal my policy shot up, I was told it was a result of a claim, the mentioned tyres that I never in the end claimed or got paid out for.

Where do I stand with this? seems highly unfair, and also makes the protecting NC kind of useless.
Any useful advise appreciated

Your % discount has remained the same but there has been a rise in your base premium as you are now perceived as a more risky driver who bounces off kerbs.

If you had made a claim, you would have had a rise in base premium and reduced discount as well if you hadn't protected it.

You should report every incident to your insurance company but I doubt many would have for two tyres. Unfortunately now you've informed them, the incident will have been recorded within the industry so you will have no choice but to declare it when getting quotes.

All you can do is put all the details correctly into comparison sites and see what happens. You might get a cheaper quote which balances out the increase.
