Lex autolease/Fleet
I was hoping to buy my lease car in two half payments one being debit card and the other credit card. The documentation says ‘payment can be made by debit or credit card over the phone by calling this number’. The reply message says that this department is permanently closed and so to pay by BACS or CHAPS. Unfortunately I can only afford to buy the car the credit/debit card way. Should I tell them to go swing and hand the car back and move on but it will mean me having to do some cosmetic repairs first or try and get them to accept this payment via debit and credit card? The transaction has to take place by the end of next week. I’m due to retire and that’s why my lease contract ends and I offered to buy the car outright.

Try some other departments at the lease company, keep on at them.1

Thanks I will0

Just emailed them and got told they are all working from home so paying by credit card is not possible so will do the cosmo job and give it back and judging by the scathing reviews on Trust pilot I'm expecting to be stung for something on handing it back regardless.0

Can't you withdraw cash on your credit card and then do a BACS transfer?

A who's going to pay crazy APR for cash withdrawal?

How you fund the car is not their problem. They do not have to accept plastic as a payment method.
As far as "stung for something on handing it back", so long as it's in the condition you agreed to hand it back in (which will be the BVRLA fair wear and tear guide), then there's nothing to be "stung for". And if it's a lease, they don't even have to let you purchase...0 -
Take photos of your car before it is handed back. They tried to say I'd nearly £800 of "damage" but I was able to argue my case and all costs dropped and car accepted with fair wear and tear.1

Sprinkly said:It states on their purchase documentation that they take credit card payments as do many car showrooms which I planned for pre lockdown. As for ‘paying it off later’ I would be in a position to clear that other card account due to funds coming in 1st July so I wouldn’t be ‘paying it off later’ as per long term and is really none of anyone’s business and my call. The time sensitive nature of purchasing this car - I retire on 30th June - and I have already paid the early termination fee means I am having to go over 30th June into July and be charged another months rental. All this could have been avoided if they’d taken my card payment a couple of weeks ago. As for being ‘stung’ for something later I suggest one pops onto Trust pilot and have a read on there regarding people being ‘stung’ Lex Auto are notorious for this. Fortunately I have middle men, my NHS-employer who is keeping an eye on things and Fleet but I have been stung for another months rent. Don’t state on any documentation that you can pay by CC/DC if one can’t.
you could take them to court for not sticking to the contract0
