Poor potatoes

Tinned potatoes do have certain taste but as I am getting everything delivered at the moment. I was out of fresh potatoes so need to use them as a stop gap. I find steaming them makes they taste a bit better. I do plaster them in gravy as well
which helps.

Spuds only go green if they've been exposed to daylight, it's a chemical reaction. The green bits should be sliced off, the rest of the spud is good. It's pretty naff it the producers have been slack enough to have the spuds out in the daylight.
I have treated myself to a small pkt of Jersey Royals this week, not something I'd normally spurge on, but it will be quite a while until my frost damaged spuds produce, although this rain and next week's hot weather will really bring them on.Of course, it'll bring the weeds along, too!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I haven't bought any Jersey Royals this year because the last couple of years I've found them quite disappointing, kind of bitter. They're not as nice since they're no longer fertilised with seaweed, I reckon. But I cant remember why the seaweed isn't used any more.1

Definitely had the same issue this year.

Like boazu I often do a batch of cooked potatoes (usually Sun lunch) and just reheat them during the week. I am eating homegrown new potatoes at the moment but bought a bag of Maris Piper from Aldi yesterday for mash and jackets. They look good but I’ll let you know later.1

Since Jerseys became big business it's no longer economic profitable to pay labour to collect & spread it.No doubt the proper traditional ones are available from somewhere like Harrod's or specialist green grocers

Must be said, my locally-produced veg box always includes potatoes, and although they sprout (because we don't eat a lot of potatoes and I forget they're there) I've never had a problem with them going green or slimey - possibly because they're covered in mud so daylight doesn't have a chance!2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

The UK-grown potatoes I buy from Tesco have a sticker on the bag. I don't have one to check right now, but it says something along the lines of, 'I'm not as beautiful as I usually am due to flooding but I still taste great so thank you for supporting UK farmers by buying me.'
