Coronavirus is actually saving me money

We are both retired so won’t have any income problems. What has surprised both of us is how much we have saved. Between us about £4000. A big amount is earmarked for council tax. Nice to be able to just pay it without worrying.
I have put most of my saved money into Premium Bonds, I now have £10k, can hardly believe it. I have won more in prizes than interest from savings accounts.
The biggest saving has been petrol. Pre Covid we did lots of day trips. We live in Dorset so there are masses of lovely places to see here and neighbouring counties. We have also saved a lot on meals out and just coffee/tea, it’s amazing how much this mounts up.
We have both been told we will get cataracts but hopefully not for years. Our savings will be used to get them done privately, even precovid pensioners had to wait for ever to get them done on the NHS.
Its funny how your priorities change when you get older.1 -
During the pandemic, I saved a lot of money, but instead, I lived a sadder period and spent more time at home ... In which I did not feel good because I am the kind of person who loves freedom ...

Initially I found our weekly food shop went up as we would shop at a major supermarket as it was just set up better and with very early opening times that we felt were safer for us. Plus we had inlaws shop to do so would do both in one go. As we didnt want to be trawling several supermarkets we also knew the big one would have everything under one roof that we don't always get at Lidl/Aldi.
Now however with savings in commute, lunches out, holidays and going back to our usual supermarkets I have never been so well off and nave a nice rainy day stash. I am also due to get the £500 social care bonus as i live and work in Wales - that was unexpected but appreciated.Been around since 2008 but somehow my profile was deleted!!!1 -
I've saved £3900 from not going out plus cutting back on food has saved another £400 as I don't just buy for the sake of it but only what I needed.
I have bought the odd bottle of whisky plus cheap tonic water, but that was already calculated for in the savings.Someone please tell me what money is1
