Data roving monthly charge

I am experiencing a problem with Vodafone. I ended my contract with them in January. But what they hadn’t mentioned was a data roving charge of £16.00 per month. I changed providers and am now with Giffgaff and have a new number. I have contacted Vodafone on three separate occasions to try and cancel this data charge without success as they say they need my phone number. However, when speaking to the customer service representative they found my account through personal details I gave them. I tried making contact with my bank Nationwide to cancel that way, but due to the Coronavirus Pandemic the local branch is closed and I couldn’t get through to their telephone service. I am at my wits end. I am seriously thinking the only way forward is to change my bank account which seems a bit drastic but what else can I do. I made a complaint to the financial Ombudsman but they just said it was too early to make a complaint. I can’t get advice from CAB as they are not open in these strange times. I do feel like a very small cog in a great machine that has stopped listening to the small cogs.

Your big mistake was not taking your old number with you when you moved to Giffgaff.
If you had requested a pac and used it to move your number across to Giffgaff your account with Vodafone would have been terminated. It sounds like your account with them is still up and running.1
