in Credit cards
I don't know where to start but should I be closing my cards? I have a mortgage so I don't need to apply for anything and also have an agility agreement on a vehicle and I've never had any issues with being approved until recently, I applied for PayPal credit and was declined. I checked my credit records but I don't see anything wrong.
I know each of my cards has different uses but should I purposefully "trim the fat" or should I do something differently?
My mortgage and my car show correctly and I haven't missed any payments on either, Mortgage is 7 years old (HSBC), My mobile phone bill (3) and the vehicle is 1 year. There were 5 closed accounts - Santander Credit Card - New Day Credit Card - Sainsbury's Loan - HSBC Loan - Vodafone
No bad marks anywhere.
My cards are as follows. I'll try to be as descriptive as possible.
Capital One Visa - £4000 Limit - Opened in 2008 - I use this every month for my subscriptions (netflix, harrys etc) (paying in full it's 35% interest)
American Express Green Card - This doesn't have a limit? I just pay the balance in full - Opened 2009 - All my normal purchases
Barclaycard Visa - £14,900 Limit - Balance £3100 - Opened 2008 - I have a 0% for 3 months left from a purchase (paying £300 per month)
MBNA Mastercard - £10,500 Limit - Opened 2010 - I don't use this card anymore? But I get balance transfer offers sometimes? but not had any in a while. (27% interest)
Tesco Mastercard - £6,300 Limit - Opened 2014 - I used to use this card but not anymore
American Express Credit Card - £4,400 Limit - Opened 2013 - I use this card for office supplies right now (paying in full)
HSBC Mastercard - £28,000 - £11,000 balance at present but not using it. - Opened in 2008 - (paying £900 per month)

Not sure we can answer your question without knowing a bit about your income and expenses. If you earn £30k, then probably yes. If you earn half a mil, then no.0

Your indebtedness is going to be a much bigger problem than the limits. I wouldn't close anything down until you've shifted some of the debt.
You don't seem too sure what's going on with your MBNA card. But if do you get a BT offer and any of your debt is interest bearing, then take advantage of it. It could be a useful card, so find out its current status.salmonspace said:

I wouldn't close anything down, but would just keep focusing on the debt itself. Do you have more than one name - like Nicola/Nic Christopher/Chris - it's just a minor thing - but if your PayPal account is in your short form name, and it didn't match your credit file long name, there's an ever so slight chance that you might have been declined because your PayPal account info didn't match your credit reference agency info. Have you had any issues with your PayPal account in recent years? Any kind of payment dispute? Just wondering if the account is marked somehow - clutching at straws really - just thinking of all possibilities.Keep an eye on your credit reports to see if the hard search appears - it says on Paypal that you can apply again after 35 days. If all your info is up to date and correct, and your name is the same as your credit file, I would be surprised that they'd turn you down. Maybe give it a couple of months once your debt levels have dropped a bit further, and try again.0
