Doesn't the 'Spanking brand new' AV receiver have a usb port for a direct plug in?....
Or Bluetooth, why switch t’telly on just to listen to mp3s?

It's very handy to use the TV, easy navigation and selection of music through the remote control, no need to switch source on the AV receiver, and assuming full digital connectivity it will sound as good as anything. (Make sure your MP3s are at least 320kbps if you want the best quality... or use FLAC!).
Bluetooth introduces a big drop in sound quality.

That was merely a result from a quick search, as a guide. I give no warranty as to the veracity of any search result. :)
Can't beat a "Yes it will work" followed by a "It might not work" - that made me laugh out loud !
Are you a politician by any chance ??
Thanks for all your help ! I'll give it a go and report back !
I suggest you read my posts again ... I did not anywhere state that it will work; I offered something for you to investigate. Nothing more, nothing less. :)

    UPDATE - 29.06.20
So after a huge amount of effort shifting nearly 100gb of music from discs to a memory stick I'm pleased to report that it works perfectly !!
Really chuffed and it sounds great.
Sadly no direct USB plug in on the amp but the quality is first class through the TV and into the receiver (Optical) and it has given us another huge selection of our own music.
Just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your help, it gave me the encouragement to get it done !
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

Just remember that memory sticks aren't a long term archive solution as they fail regularly so make sure you have a backup somewhere else as well.  You don;t want to go through all that effort again.
