I already know how that feels because they do that. I dont mind it tbh.George_Michael said:Ask yourself one question.
How would you feel if you went to hang your washing out but were constantly unable to do so because the communal area was taken up by people sitting around or having a BBQ where your washing line was?
This is probably how the other people who are entitled to use the communal area feel with regards to your rotary line.0 -

I was going to say this as it really irritates me. But then I wasn’t sure if she meant she’d brought it from her previous house. Brought instead of bought really gets my goat.rach_k said:Tell them. They are not mind readers so how else are they going to know?
On a side note, if you went to a shop to buy the line, you bought it. Brought is the past tense of bring, not buy.0 -

There's loads of space in the garden for them to buy their own and errect it. Theres not many flats and its a massive gardenJennyjen45 said:I just want to know if as i brought it is it communal or is it mine. There wasnt one there when i moved in but there is no room for another one.1 -
It's not a grammar related mistake. Bought and brought are two totally different words with totally different meanings.Jennyjen45 said:I appologise for my dyslexia we cant all be good with grammar
This isn't a dig at you (after all, none of us are perfect). I'm simply pointing out the difference so you use the correct word in the future.3 -
fIf it's a communal area they probably think it's in their contract that can use the ameneties in the communal area. Have you told them that it is yours? Have the management company said every flat can put up their own drier?Speak to them, tell them it's yours and remove it when you're not using it. You have the right to use the communal area but not the right to stake out your own personal space in it.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi2

There is only one certain solution and that is for you to take the line in when you finish using it. That is assuming nobody is using your line at the same time. You don't 'technically' own the line, you do own the line as you purchased it.

Maybe they literally own it :-)TELLIT01 said:You don't 'technically' own the line, you do own the line as you purchased it.

@Jennyjen45 Don't leave pegs on there! Do what the previous posters have said and take the drier in when you're not using it. In any case I hate to see pegs left on a line, it looks unsightly and they go rusty. I have my own garden with own line and never leave pegs on it!Jennyjen45 said:
They have even used my pegs!comeandgo said:Many years ago I did as your neighbour did and used a clothes line in a communal area. When I viewed the flat I was told the clothes line were for all to use. Wow, I still shake when I remember the shouting of the neighbour who's clothes line I used. I quickly bought one for myself and left it there when I left.
Your neighbour has no right to use yours but maybe does not realise this.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £16,087.170
