Avanti Gas Tank Uplift

Any help greatly appreciated.
In short we have had the underground tank of LPG removed from the back garden due to a house extension.
Avanti Gas have requested a £500 + VAT charge to collect the tank ........in the next 12 weeks. As i am new to the world of LPG i'm unsure on a number of points:
1. Do i actually own the tank and how do i prove ownership.
2. The £500 charge seems excessive to me if not scandalous
3. Can i legally charge them a storage fee as it has sat here in my driveway now for 3 weeks.
4. is there an ombudsman i can write to?

1. It is fairly unusual for you to own the tank.  It is normally the property of your gas supplier.
2. You need to check your contract to see about charges for removal.  Certainly my old Calor contract covered this - along with similar charges to those quoted by Avanti.
3. In the current climate, I can see why it may be taking sometime to have the tank taken away.
4. No, there is no ombudsman that covers LPG specifically.  This has been the problem for a number of years, as others on here will testify!

Do you no longer have a need for LPG?
