I have stopped using Waitrose (no free coffee and stupidly long queues) and now shop Tesco online. I have been very lucky with deliveries and had them very quickly - one less than 24 hours from order to delivery !

For food shopping - yes it has changed the way I shop and will continue to do so for the months ahead.
I have managed to get some online deliveries from the start mainly Tesco and Morrisons ( Asda was a disgrace) - some were picked with care and yes items were missing - but to be expected, I since have moved to click and collect either Tesco or Sainsbury, my local Morrison does'nt offer it.  Sainsbury moved quickly to only given vunerable slots for home delivery and there customers in there 60's with underlying health problems didn't stand a chance!   Even with the click and collect it seems like they are doing you a favour....I did at first feel really let down by Sainsbury but accept and understand there need to justify restricting delivery - however there click and collect was weeks to start and then you have to wait sometimes 30 mins before they wheel it out. Tesco is 100% with there click and collect and could teach Sainsbury a lesson or two.

Of them all - I too must admit that Morrison surprised me at first....then sadly it went pear shaped (young pickers who have never done a grocery shop in there lives) - but as a supermarket it is the only one I have actually ventured into.  It opens at 7am and I go either Tues/Wed never busy and ultra clean at that time, I am careful but feel safe - its lovely to smelll the bread and see the fishmonger and butchers setting up and so helpful. Sadly I do not think I could or would want to get a trolley and do a large weekly shop anywhere at present.

I have also taken to get a local veg/fruit box from the main wholesaler in my area and it has been fantastic, plus fresh milk comes along with eggs and butter.
My tip is to buy a small plastic shopping basket - got mine several years back and never expected to use like I do now, no need to use stores own - plus it limits my buying too.

I will change my habits now for good. I was getting a Sainsbury order once a month and then seemed to be popping into shops on the way home from work maybe 3 or 4 times a week. I managed to get a veg box delivery from a local farm at the start of lockdown and want to carry that on.

I have also discovered a local bakery that deliver bread boxes and the bread is so good I don’t plan to buy supermarket bread much at all!

i was totally unable to get any sainsbury deliveries as I’m not on the government list, so feel that they have dumped their loyal customers, although I do appreciate why and understand that those shielding absolutely needed deliveries.  The option of click and collect doesn’t work for us as the nearest is 6 miles away and we don’t have a car. But I have managed to get Tesco deliveries every fortnight and with that and just a few small bits from Lidl/Aldi once a week, we have all we need and are actually spending quite a lot less than the several trips a week to Lidl before.

So my plan is to continue with Tesco deliveries, veg box, bread box and spend more of my life at home and less at the checkout!

Sainsburys have rather shot themselves in the foot with some loyal customers - me included.  While I too understand - there was no adjustment - if you were not on the list - no go.  I shop for Mum in her 80's and am in early 60's so safety is a big concern.  She kept saying can you get this etc - thinking as always I was getting the stuff from Sainburys.
At least Mums council were on the ball phoning regarding shopping etc.

Nothing has really changed or will change. I'd love to support local shops if there were any. No butcher or greengrocers anywhere near. I live in a city and there are few butchers and no greengrocers that I know off even in the town centre. To get anywhere I can't walk means a bus.

I have been shopping online with Waitrose and Tesco for several years, and I will continue to do so.

In the early period of the lockdown when the supermarkets were still sorting themselves out and slots impossible, Waitrose unexpectedly delivered 2 bags of (gifted) basic groceries to me, and have me on their priority list now. Their drivers are always anxious to make sure they get the bags as near as possible - just inside the door sometimes, and that I can manage, as have been the drivers of the 2 Tesco deliveries I've had.

I can get Waitrose slots easily now, and that is so good for my peace of mind.

    No intention to change!

Im hoping it will all calm down and I would be able to make use of online shopping co e end of the year, I would use 1 or both of the discounters as well just as a top up.

    +1

I had Waitrose home delivery before this all started. I am on the priority list and can, like you, easily get slots. I know the drivers who are friendly and helpful. Apart from the early Covid days I have pretty much always got what I have ordered - where necessary the substitutions have been sensible

  • I have having food deliveries for some years, a large monthly shop topped up by shops in the village. I hate supermarkets so it suited me. When c19 hit only the vulnerable could get slots so I started going to the supermarket. Initially weekly because of shortages, now fortnightly but still more often that I'd like. I suspect that I will never again be able to get food delivered.

I think you will see a difference now....many slot opened....the only problem for you is if you used Tesco as they still limit items in online shopping or click and collect to 80 items at present.  But really so many slot are available now with all the supermarkets.
Must admit I have become fond of click and collect - it gets me out but without going in the store.
