Thankyou Donnie, I think this is the version that i have but it keeps on saying that it requires updates and that i need to subscribe. I need a firewall that works without the need for subscribing if there is one.

But you don't need to update! Simply switch of the "Check for auto update" in Preferences.

As for all the other comments who had nothing helpful to say, I did not ask for anyone to provide me with their opinion of windows ME, so please put a hold on the verbal diarrhoea in future.

It's worth restating that what the OP considers "verbal diarrhoea" is actually sound advice. The OP may know what he/she is doing and have taken steps to isolate his/her PC from the dangers out there.

But the "average user" should not be left with the impression that a Windows ME based PC can be secured against the current generation of malware. It can't - if you view a perfectly innocuous-looking web page which happens to be infected with MPack or one of the many derivatives that exist, then the chances are your PC will be "owned", whether you have a firewall or not.

There's certainly a lot to be said for how good XP is in comparison to the other MS OSes. There's still lots more life and support left yet for XP which is more than can be said for ME.

well i am certainly getting excited cos i KNOW that i'll be installing the new printer.was intending on doing this up for my daughter and although she won't be online for a while i'm thinking forward.aint putting ME back on it so the other options are 98se or pay out for a copy of XP.i want to recycle this but with it being so old i dunno if it's worth faffing about.
  • have to agree about ME, the fact is that Microsoft even cleaned ME off their hands because they knew it was a ajor failure in what they thought was a breakthrough and considering it was over 18 months overdue, they even realsed it with so many bugs it was ripped apart in so many magazines and newspapers.

change you system to xp, don't change to vista what ever you do .....think you have problems now...change to vista and you will be happy that what yu had with ME was a god send lol.

ive also used zone labs security suite for 4 years now and although like any software , it has had its fair share of buggy moments but has done myself and my clients well over the years

As you are a new user to this forum, your latter comment is particularly galling. People are taking precious time out of their day to offer you advice, that sort of comment with not endear you to anyone here.

As you are asking people to "put a hold on the verbal diarrhoea in future", others may ask you to read the information on ZoneAlarm's website, and their help files, to show how to install without registering and auto-upating, to save asking a simple secondary question. ;)

This is an open discussion forum, and we are giving opinions and comments, many come from a highly qualified professionals, in all manner of fields. Our comments are helpful if you heed the advice, many of us (professionally based) agree using ME today is crazy, let alone on-line. You are very lucky to find that any software is still supported or available than runs on it.

    I completely echo fwor's comments.
