Seller cancelled after item received.

Bought iPhone on eBay, seller asked not to use PayPal, but buyer refused and paid through PayPal and then received the item. Papal have now sent a message saying seller has cancelled the order and the item must be returned.
Is this a scam, surely there is no obligation to return the goods? However I can’t understand how or why this would happen.
Anyone have knowledge of this and could enlighten me? Thank you

Sorry I am buyer the payment went through PayPal Balance no echeque. So as far as o can see it is exactly the same as any other completed transaction. However I have an email from eBay to say seller has cancelled and I need to return the item. Unless you've had a FULL refund, I would not be sending anything back. Even then, I'd be wary about sending it back as you can't just cancel after a sale.

Why don't you just contact the seller via ebay messages and ask why there was a request for cancellation. I would have done this before coming on here as they might have a reasonable explanation or may have just made an error and incorrectly requested a cancellation. If there is no response then leave it but this could possibly ring alarm bells as to the actual item you have received.

I think I came on here as I have never heard of this and I know there are experienced sellers and you all know the ins and outs and I don’t want to get caught up in a scam (if I haven’t already) I should have withdrew as soon as he started asking not to go through PayPal. It could be the seller thinks he can cancel for a refund of his selling fees...? Either way, ignore and enjoy your item.3
