For you. And that's sad. It's still not worth the risk.
But the rest of us want to utilise our rights and freedoms - one of which (a fairly small one) is not to have a TV Licence if it isn't needed.
All that the BBC can ask of us is that we obey the relevant rules, and I personally always do - but they then react with such bad grace to that, and that drives massive animosity towards the Licence regime.0 -
Fair enough for those who wish to run the gauntlet with the licensing authority.Cornucopia said:

I absolutely agree it is sad that I feel forced to buy a TV license even when I technically probably shouldn't need one.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}0 -

I absolutely agree it is sad that I feel forced to buy a TV license even when I technically probably shouldn't need one.Being informed of my rights and not listening to horror stories of big bad BBC has lead me to having 8 years without a license and I don’t miss it one bit.2 -

I think "run the gauntlet" is a somewhat emotive way of putting it. Do you "run the gauntlet" when you take a taxi because you don't have a Driving Licence?
Yes, the BBC (as licensing authority) has a uniquely mendacious approach amongst all UK law enforcement/tax collecting authorities, but we need to oppose that and much of it is just bluff, bluster and theatricality.
I'd hate for anyone to feel that they had to have a Licence even if they didn't need one just because, for example, they believed the wording of the TVL letters that we already know are economical with the truth (both in the sense of being deliberately misleading and also because of important information that is omitted or down-played).0 -
If you don't require a TV licence (ie watch live TV, IPlayer etc) then there is no need to buy one.
Otherwise, following your logic, we should all buy fishing licences just in case the local river bailiffs come knocking...1
