Depending on the factory, some factories were deemed key workers. I would guess the food and medicine ones were never really looked in detail.0

It's not really true to say schools in Wales stayed open. In my local authority we set up hubs for key worker kids and kids with social workers (though not children in care), you had to apply every week. It was more child care than schoolAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

"Key worker" is a specific term of art in legislation that pre-dates Covid. It refers to a subset of public sector workers that can get subsidised accommodation.
"Critical Workers" is the covid legislation term and are listed here:

But the OP "was given a letter to say I'm an essential worker", but not clarified whether that means "essential worker" for her factory, or one of the defined "Key Worker" or "Critical Worker" definitions set out by the Government.
