I thought that was quite a 'mature ' post for a newbie!
I lost track of this thread after suggesting a soa in the first place - it seems to be going well now and I agree wth Jude that you should not need a dmp and should not need to affect your credit file.

What you do need is to examine every item of expenditure

    and

try to minimise interest on those debts. 0% balance transfers are the way forward - have you checked if any are available?

    Haha - truth!
  • Thanks everyone,
The 0% offers have dried up, I ran through an eligibility check through MSE and it didn't look too good. After working on the SOA it is clear that there is (or should be) enough money available to work through the CC debts, it's more about getting organised than getting into DMP. One of the larger balances has a 0% offer which ends in two weeks which is a shame

You should be fine if you keep the right attitude, cut the fat basically and try to pay over the minimum amount , putting most effort into the highest interest rate cards. Then see where you are at.

So you are getting 0% offers. Concentrate on clearing one card first - maybe the 26% one -  and then before you close it ask what they can offer you.

There is a thread on the credit cards board on existing customer offers. It's a bit out of date but may give some tips

I think it's really worth as a family committing to getting DF.

Your latest SOA shows £87 on mobiles. That's a crazy amount and you should be able to go SIM only and have over £50 a month towards your debts - that's like making Christmas free!

Look hard at where your money is going and how to cut down.  You'll soon find that the debt reduction mounts up. It will get easier as your family get used to being focused on reducing your debt.

Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.
  • Thanks. I've checked upgrades on mobiles - Mine is due in November this year and can go sim only for £15p/m, wife's is similar, due April next year. So phone bills will go from £87 to £40. EE said there's a fee of £200+ if I/wife upgrades now.

Wow, £200+ each or total? Is EE the only option for you? There are quite a few sim only deals for £10 a month, unlimited calls, texts and 4GB data.

For free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Beware fee charging companies with similar names.
  • Each! No happy to move away from EE. I use my personal mobile as a work phone, data comes to around 15gb a month on avg.
